Have you ever felt overwhelmed by all the advice about what you should eat?
It seems like nutrition recommendations are constantly changing. We get endless tips from the media, our friends, and families. For a lot of us who are simply trying to keep up with the demands of everyday life, figuring out what to eat and what advice to follow can feel like another thing to add to our already long to-do list.
I believe nutrition should feel simple.
Not because it isn't technical, but because you are an expert in your own body, and taking care of yourself shouldn't have to feel complicated. My goal is to help you:
- cut through the noise,
- understand what matters for your health,
- find an approach to eating that works for you, and the people you share your life with.
A Little Bit About Me
Hi! I'm Sarah Losier, a Registered Dietitian. I’m naturally curious, and a big science nerd at heart. My curiosity helps me get to know my clients, learn what matters to you, and individualizes your care. If my recommendations seem too obvious, it’s because they should be - they are customized to you!
I've been supporting people with their nutrition since 2014. In my experience, we can create the biggest impact with small, sustainable changes that still allow us to enjoy food and our lives. There is no single way to eat that works for everyone. Our health needs, food preferences, schedules, energy levels, and abilities all influence how we eat. Knowing what to eat to support this is only part of the picture. Finding a way to make it happen in your everyday life is just as important.
What My Hobbies Have Taught Me About Nutrition
In my free time you’ll likely find me gardening, running, and sewing. I also like to veg out watching cooking shows. Two hobbies I want to highlight are running and sewing. They might seem like very different activities, but neither is something you master overnight. Sure, you can know the basics to get the job done. But with thought, time, and practice you find the tools that work for you to make this effort easier and more enjoyable. I like to bring this idea into my approach with nutrition. I’ll bet you can take skills from your hobbies and apply them to food too!
For example, when I'm sewing, I need to understand my pattern, choose the right materials, and pay attention to how the sewing machine is responding to what I’m doing. If I rush, force something, or ignore signs that something is wrong I end up breaking a needle, damaging the fabric, or have a garment that doesn’t fit. I’m looking at you overalls I rushed late at night that I can’t sit down in…
Running is similar. It takes time to build endurance. I need to pay attention to how my body feels, adjust my pace, and be patient with myself while I improve. Pushing through a difficult moment isn’t always the best approach. Sometimes, it leads to injury.
In both hobbies, I've learned that the greatest success comes from finding a way of doing things that works with me, not against me. Nutrition is no different. A meal plan might look wonderful on paper but fall apart when your day runs late, you forgot to plan for the groceries, or it doesn’t meet your energy needs for the day. When something isn't working, the answer isn't always to try harder. We may need to simplify the process, or find a different approach altogether. Sometimes, we need a little help to figure out what that looks like. This is what I mean by nutrition should feel simple. Your plan nourishes you, but it still meets you where you are at.
Let’s Make Nutrition Simple
Making things simpler isn't about lowering your expectations for your health. My goal is to help you focus on the changes that are most meaningful for your health and find practical ways to fit them into your current life. That might mean finding a few easy breakfasts you enjoy, making your favourite meals more nourishing, keeping convenient options on hand, or creating routines that work with you rather than against what your brain wants.
